Jo M. Orise – Been painting but…

But My Butt Hurts!

“Just One of Those Days”
graphic by: Jo M. Orise (formerly: J.S. Cabana)

Had trouble sitting for the last eight months.

I know why— sat too long at my desk working on a super, important project. ðŸ˜‚

The first evening, I felt uncomfortable. I ignored the problem and continued the project for several hours—had to catch up before our long drive home.

The next day, I did the same thing.

Retiring for the night, I reviewed my decision of the previous two days—sitting on what I now consider a most uncomfortable chair was a bad choice. Been using that chair for the last five years and never had a problem. To make things worse, I would be sitting in a vehicle for the next three days during our drive home. Super bad decision.

I was right.

By the time we got home, my leg was inflamed from butt to ankle. Had to be sciatica. Happened years ago, but not so bad.

Fast forward eight months. After having favored the butt and leg with homeopathic lotions and turmeric and the occasional Ibuprofen, I managed to reduce the inflammation to a small spot on my butt—right where the body sits on a chair. Small but very uncomfortable.

Our recent plan, another three days drive back here. The place were the terrible deed was committed.

We drove off, with much trepidation on my ‘end.’ 😩

What RELIEF! The trip was not bad. I applied the lotion twice a day and whenever needed. Plus the turmeric and occasional Ibuprofen helped. Now a dull pain was annoying me. Not so bad.

Off we went—two fifteen mile bike rides.

I decided to slow down.

Hubby was sympathetic.

I was besides myself. (Besides my butt?)

Hubby had a medical appointment… returning home he suggested I make an appointment to see our doctor. Reluctant at first, I finally called.

“See you tomorrow!”

Wow! Tomorrow! Hubby had filled her in and persuaded her to see me ASAP.

Doc poked and prodded. I was not hurting too badly. She scheduled an x-ray. Arthritis in the tailbone. Nothing else.

After she examined me, my pain nearly vanished. A few days later it was basically gone. Now how is that for a super doctor. She did that once before. I had another pain in my right hip area. She examined me. I went home and decided to take something new. I mixed a little Collagen mixture in water before bed. Next day the pain was gone. Never came back.

So, did I heal slowly on my own or did I have the opportunity to have my doctor ‘heal’ me with her touch? I’ve told her she had healing hands. At least I would like to think so.

Now my butt sits comfortably on a more padded seat. I don’t sit as long as I used to.

Take heed. Get off you behind every now and then. Take a walk, bicycle or swim. Baby fat may help keep you padded and comfortable however, as you get older, that cute baby fat look will dwindle and aches and pains take over. Learn to deal with them and especially learn how to avoid them.
Or, perhaps you will find a miracle healer like I did. 😉

Do you have a story about a healing touch?

Art Update, March 2015

Hello everyone. As I said I’ve been busy painting and helping my 90 year old gentleman neighbor who I will call S.G. pack and sort his possessions in order to move out of his beautiful home. He can no longer manage the property and deserves a less chaotic life style. He will move in with his brother across town, on a lake’s edge where there are a couple of docks. Since my friend loves fishing, I suppose that is where he will spend a lot of his time.

S. G. is tickled to be out of his big home and moving to a lake front property. The only thing he has to watch for are alligators.

Meanwhile, I have entered two watercolor paintings into a group show at the Citrus County Art Center  in Hernando, FL. The show will last until mid April.

Share this with your friends. Perhaps someone will be in the area and come to our group show.

Leave a comment. Love to hear from you. I will add a thumbnail of one of the paintings soon.

We love having breakfast there and bring home a healthy share of their home-made bread, pies and sandwiches. Full breakfast menu makes one drool. Chef Calvin performs magic at the cook-stove. The cake lady and bread crew do a wonderful job at creating delicious, specialty cakes, breads and muffins, sticky rolls, brownies, whoopie pies, and lots more. The staff is friendly and fun to talk to. Some of them feel like family. If you get to know the regular customers, you’ll find them friendly with great stories to share. You must go there and experience the ambiance. Our first visit was in 1999 and we got hooked.

So, people, go to the Brown Bag Restaurant Cafe, enjoy the food, look at my artwork and if one moves you, don’t be shy to ask an employee to assist you with it’s purchase. Bring an artwork home—you will have something special to enjoy for years to come. Visit my website: www.jomorise.com

Is This Another Scam Come My Way? Maybe Not. Or… .

Well, let me come down a notch—it sounded pretty good. Maybe it is a legitimate offer.

But why did it look strange? The e-mail—all text based. No graphics. From Wikipedia? In today’s world of social interaction, there are usually graphics, pictures—something to look at.  As I read, I found a typo. Not very professional. There is a spell check and grammar check in all publishing software, and even in e-mail/web-mail software. Why hadn’t they been used? Is this another scam come my way?

The signature? Victoria, wikigallery.org, Webmaster.

Only a first name, Victoria. Victoria who? The Webmaster? Why would a webmaster write this note? Why not the Art Coordinator, or other such title? Webmasters create websites. Perhaps Wikipedia’s Wikigallery is on a very LOW budget. Somehow, I don’t seem to believe that.

“… Our database of Fine Art images and articles is in the millions and we continue to grow daily…”

Why would I want to be ‘buried’ in a million+ swarm of artist? For me—I have no patience browsing. One million+ options to choose from sounds oppressive. I’d lose my bearings and throw up. Sorry. :-(

What prospective client has that much time to shop for artwork? Easier to take a holiday and make the gallery circuit in a quaint art community somewhere on the globe, or better yet, go to an interesting artist’s web-page and talk to them. That has a personal touch. :-)

After an initial reading, I set the e-mail aside. A few days later I entered Victoria’s signature and company name at http://www.snopes.com . Well, well. What do you know? It was been reported as a possible SCAM in 2011. I never heard of it until now. So is it really a scam?

Check out this link from linkedin.com written by Laurie, April 5, 2011:

Here is another link:

But, that is only two opinions. I didn’t find any other signals of scam, which is a relief in a way. It’s Wikipedia we are talking about here!

To calm my nerves, I went to the mountain http://www.wikigallery.org – at the very bottom right of the page there is a link Art resources and it does bring you to a large selection of artists. Some are WOW! others are heh? Looks legit. But like I said, I have no patience for such a plethora of links to so many people/galleries. It’s a nice place to visit but… .

Will I ever join. Hmmm. Don’t know. Dramamine anyone? :-(

Always check out the ‘stuff’ friends send. The Internet is NOT the book of rules or the bible. It is fallible—very, very fallible. Think about the writer: who, why, when. If it sounds too good to be true—IT IS! But this one? I think it is okay. What do you think?

Thanks.

Donation to Seacoast Outright Organization

A fundraiser is planned for Seacoast Outright (www.seacoastoutright.org) on Saturday, August 18th at Buoy Gallery in Kittery. Seacoast Outright supports GLBT youth in our community. The fundraiser, called “Art got Go, is a fun event where ticket holders take home an original piece of art and support a wonderful local organization.

Peter Welch with
Alisso’s Restuarant print

Peter Welch, a member of the Kittery Art Association, contacted me requesting a possible donation for this event. Therefore, I obliged with a print of “Alisson’s Restaurant” to help support the service the organization provides for young people in the area.

Good luck in all you do and I do hope the winner enjoys the print. It is a reproduction of a larger pencil drawing I completed in three months time. I often tell admires of the drawing that I should have started with a black sheet of paper and used white pencil instead. That drawing truely ‘got the lead out’. Chuckle.

Check out the organization’s website to see what is happening.
